Hugh Caulkins

Hugh was born in Wales in 1600. He married Ann (--?--) in Wales say 1620. Hugh Caulkins emigrated with Ann (--?--) say 1640 from England. He came with Rev. Richard Blinman, bringing his wife and at least three children. They settled first at Marshfield, Mass., in 1640. The next year he moved to Lynn. On 27 December 1642 he was made a freeman, at which time he was living in Gloucester. He served as a Gloucester selectman 1643-1648, and was elected a representative 1650-1652. He did not serve his last term there because he had moved to New London, Conn. In New London, he was selectman and representative for half the time he resided there, and town clerk the whole time. In 1662 he moved to Norwich, Conn. In Norwich, he was the first deacon when the church was organized. He served as representative for Norwich in 1663-1664. Hugh died in 1690 in Norwich, New London County, Connecticut.
