Susannah was born circa 1626.1,2,3,4,5,6 She married Thomas Dutton possibly in Lynn, Essex County, Massachusetts, say 1647.2,4,5 Susannah died on 27 August 1684 in Billerica, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.7,5,1,8,2
This Susannah, wife of Thomas Dutton, is often reported as "Susannah Palmer." There is no evidence that I am aware of that can support this identification. The 1650 will of Barbara Palmer of Leicester, England, mentions a cousin "Susanna Dutten."9 However, we are not certain that this Susanna was born a Palmer, nor do we know that she lived in New England. The Mormons' Personal Ancestral File included the surname Palmer for Susannah at one time, but as of 1998 she was listed as surname unknown (after a running battle between a persistent submitter and one of PAF's data checkers). In 1999, Susannah Palmer was "back" as a second wife to Thomas, but with such information as is provided matching the earlier record.Susannah is in the direct ancestry of Joseph Smith the Prophet.

- [S167] Susannah is sometimes reported as being born in Billerica. Since Billerica is first mentioned in Massachusetts records 29 May 1655, the notion that she was born there (while it was called that) is nonsensical. A birth date of 1626 strongly suggests that she emigrated to New England.
