Ensign Hugh Welles

(circa 1590 - circa 1645)

9-greats-grandfather of Darrell Allen Martin.
He probably came in the ship Globe in 1635, with his brother Richard, and settled in Hartford, CT in 1636. He was among the first settlers there. Soon after, he removed to Wethersfield (again among the first to arrive) and lived there the rest of his life. He was an ensign in the Wethersfield military company. Hugh was born in Colchester, Essex, England, circa 1590. He married Frances (--?--) in England circa 1619. Hugh died circa 1645 in Wethersfield, Hartford County, Connecticut. He was "of" Wethersfield, Hartford County, Connecticut, in May 1651.1
