Salmon was born in Massachusetts on 23 December 1782.1,2 He was the son of John Fish Senior and Hannah (--?--). An alternate form of his name was Solomon and the Biblical king is almost certainly the one for whom he was named, not the fish.3 He was a blacksmith at some point in his life.4 An alternate form of his name was Fisk.5 A "religious test" was recorded 19 June 1806 for "Salmon Fish" in Rockingham, Windham County, Vermont.6 He married Thirza Dutton in Chester, Windsor County, Vermont, on 8 January 1807.7,8,9 Salmon was probably age 16 and under 26 in Stephen Dutton's household in the 1810 Census taken in Chester.10 He was "warned out" of Rockingham, Windham County, Vermont, on 27 May 1816.11 His name was legally changed to Salmon Fremont presumably after his marriage to Thirza and the birth of their children.12 He was a head of household in the 18 June 1860 census taken in Haverhill, Grafton County, New Hampshire, as "Salmon Fremont" age 77, a farmer; his real estate was valued at $2,000 and his personal property at $500, the equivalent of $51,000 (total) in the year 2000; Thirza Dutton resided in the same household, as "Tirzah Fremont" age 76; as did Osgood Mussey Morse, a farmer age 41 (whose personal property was valued at $250, the equivalent of $5,100 in the year 2000); Faustina Fish, as "Fostina Morse" age 41; Cynthia M. Morse, a student age 15; William August Morse, a student age 13; and Charles O. Morse, age 2.9 Salmon died following 1860 in Haverhill, N.H..13
