Curtis was born in Springfield, Windsor County, Vermont, on 9 December 1951.1 He is the son of Clifton Carroll Martin and Kathelyn Mae Dutton. In the summer of 1967, the family removed to to Union Lake, Oakland County, Michigan when Bryant Computer Products was moved by its parent Excello Corporation. In 1970 the family moved to in Walled Lake, Oakland County, Michigan. He married MaryJane McCance in the Martin family home on Welch Road in Walled Lake, Mich., on 25 August 1970.2
