Oliver was born in Bridgewater, Litchfield County, Connecticut, on 14 June 1853.1 He was the son of Lewis Wells Beardsley and Nellie Eunice Judson. He was usually called William or Will.1 He married Theresa Mary Leedom on 20 November 1877.1 Oliver died on 19 June 1930 Bridgewater, Conn., at age 77.1 He was buried at Roxbury Center Cemetery in Roxbury, Litchfield County, Connecticut.1
When a young man, he accompanied his brothers, Henry and Lewis, on their trips to upper New York State, where they went to buy cattle. Later he was in charge of transportation of granite from the Mine Hill quarries at Roxbury.
Although he was not a farmer, his twenty acres of land were always under cultivation, which meant plenty of provisions for his large family--bins of apples and potatoes, pork, bacon, hans, milk, and butter; typically the old fashioned New England way of life.
He was a man of few words, but esteemed by all.1
