7th cousin thrice removed of Darrell Allen Martin.
William was born in Bridgewater, Litchfield County, Connecticut, on 11 October 1882.1 He was the son of Oliver William Beardsley and Theresa Mary Leedom. Doctor William Henry Beardsley graduated in 1906 from Williston Seminary in Easthampton, Hampshire County, Massachusetts.2 He graduated in 1910 from Yale Medical School in New Haven, New Haven County, Connecticut.1 He interned at Springfield Massachusetts Hospital in Springfield, Hampden County, Massachusetts from 1910 to 1912.1 He married Anna Jackson Hartness in Springfield, Windsor County, Vermont, on 30 October 1912.1,3 He practiced at Lying-in Hospital in New York City, New York (as a resident?) from 1914 to 1915.1 Although when he moved to town, probably in 1915, he was still a young man, he apparently never practiced medicine in Springfield.4 In 1915 he became associated with, and was an official of, the Jones and Lamson Machine Company in Springfield.1 He was President of the Board of Directors of Springfield Hospital from May 1923 until his death.5,6 He was on the committee that made arrangements for the visit, 26 July 1927, of Charles Lindbergh to Springfield, Windsor County, Vermont. "The Captain spent the night at the Hartness mansion, and flew off on the 27th ..."7 He was a head of household in the 19 April 1930 census; Anna Jackson Hartness resided in the same household; as did James Hartness Beardsley; Constance Beardsley; Mary Beardsley.8 He was elected a Selectman for Springfield, Windsor County, Vermont, for a three year term, at the Town Meeting 1 March 1932.9 He was elected President of the Vermont Chamber of Commerce in May 1932.10 He was elected to the State Senate from Windsor County, Vermont, in the 8 November 1932 election.11,12 William died at Hanover hospital, of a mastoid infection, on 2 March 1935 in Hanover, Grafton County, New Hampshire, at age 52. It was only three days before the end of his term as Selectman.13,1
