Osgood was born in North Haverhill, Haverhill, Grafton County, New Hampshire, on 16 August 1819.1,2,3 He was the son of John Morse and Eunice Willoughby. He married Faustina Fish on 5 December 1843.4,5 He was a head of household in the 17 October 1850 census taken in Calaveras District, Calaveras County, California, as "Osgood M. Morse" age 31, a miner (his real estate was valued at $1,000, the equivalent of $21,700 (total) in the year 2000); Moses Flanders resided in the same household, a miner age 35; as did P.A. Borston, a miner age 25. He was a resident in the household of Salmon Fish in the 18 June 1860 census taken in Haverhill, Grafton County, New Hampshire, a farmer age 41 (whose personal property was valued at $250, the equivalent of $5,100 in the year 2000).6 He was a head of household in the 6 June 1870 census taken in Haverhill, N.H., age 50, a farmer (his real estate was valued at $900 and his personal property at $250, the equivalent of $15,100 (total) in the year 2000); Faustina Fish resided in the same household, keeping house as "Faustina Morse" age 50; as did Charles O. Morse, a student age 12; and Edward B. Morse, a student age 9.7
