He married Shirley Mae Dean circa 1929.1 He was a head of household in the 22 April 1930 census taken in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan, age 21, a hotel steward; Shirley Mae Dean resided in the same household, as "Shirley Mallison", age 21; as did Stephen Joseph Dean, as "Stephen Dean" age 72, father-in-law to Vester.
