Earle was born in Springfield, Windsor County, Vermont, on 3 August 1912.1,2,3,4 He was the son of Herbert William Dutton and Lillie Mae Felch. He was a resident in the household of Herbert William Dutton in the 31 January 1920 census taken in Springfield as "Earl H.", a student age 7y 4m, his son.5 He married Dorothy M. Wescott on 6 April 1941.6,7 He became Gary Dutton's adoptive father say 1949. Earle died in September 1977 at age 65.8,9
