Williard was born in Springfield, Windsor County, Vermont, on 19 July 1811. He was the son of Williard Lawrence Hodgman and Nancy Johnson. He married Mary Hall in Springfield on 27 November 1833. Williard died circa 1874 in Proctorsville, Cavendish, Windsor County, Vermont.
