He came to New England with the rest of the family in 1631, and removed to Ipswich in 1633. The next year he was granted lands there. He opened the first "public house" (tavern) in Ipswich. John was born in Hillmorton Parish, Warwickshire, England, probably September 1609.1 He was the son of John Perkins and Judith Gater. He was baptized in Hillmorton Parish, Warks., Eng., on 14 September 1609.2 He married Elizabeth (--?--) circa 1635.3 John died on 14 December 1686 in Ipswich, Essex County, Massachusetts.
