Osberne was born say 1020. He was the son of Osbern de Bolebec Lord of Longueville and Avelina (--?--). An alternate form of his name was Osbert. He fought with William the Conqueror in the invasion of England, and received vast grants of land in Gloucestershire. He settled at Brimesfield, and subsequently, in the time of King Stephen, a great castle was built there, which continued to be the residence of the family until it was destroyed by the army of Edward II, in 1322. Osberne died circa 1086.
