She married Prentiss Whiting Haines III, "T.J." in the Signal Battalion Army Chapel on Fort Gordon, Georgia, on 17 January 1976. Ella was divorced from Prentiss Whiting Haines III, "T.J." in Houston, Harris County, Texas, on 15 May 1981. She had her name legally changed to Teddy.
