James was born in Vermont on 28 April 1934.1,2 He is the son of Clifton Oliver Martin and Annis Lizzie LaQue. James Edward Martin was often called Jim or Jimmy. He lost the little finger on his left hand while in the woods rolling a log with his brother Richard; both tried to stop the log from rolling, "Rick" with his axe--Jim with his hand. He later lost all four fingers on his right hand in an industrial accident in the GE plant in Ludlow. He nevertheless became a competent golfer. He married Clarice MacGinnis probably in Vermont circa 1953. James was divorced from Clarice MacGinnis probably in Vermont in 1962. He married Diane Henry in August 1965. James was divorced from Diane Henry in July 1967. He married Ann Bodenhamer in August 1968. James was divorced from Ann Bodenhamer in July 1974. He married Catherine Brochek on 21 June 1977. James was divorced from Catherine Brochek in January 1978.
