Edith was born in Chester, Windsor County, Vermont, on 22 May 1869.1,2,3 She was the daughter of Perrin Smith Dutton and Sybil Dartt. She was a resident in the household of Perrin Smith Dutton in the 1870 census taken in Springfield, Windsor County, Vermont, age 1.4 She married George Morse on 24 November 1892.5
