Edith was born in Rockingham, Windham County, Vermont, on 25 August 1838.1,2,3,4 She was the daughter of Stephen Hartwell Dutton and Lemira Hodgman. Edith was probably age under 5 in Stephen Hartwell Dutton's household in the 1840 Census taken in Rockingham.5 She was a resident in the household of Stephen Hartwell Dutton in the 21 August 1850 census taken in Rockingham a student age 11.6 She was a resident in the household of Stephen Hartwell Dutton in the 13 June 1860 census taken in Springfield, Windsor County, Vermont, as "Edith A. L." age 12 (in error).7 She married Jerome W. Herrick circa 1860.8,9 Edith died in February 1867 in Chester, Windsor County, Vermont, at age 28.10,11
