| Edward was born in Springfield, Windsor County, Vermont, on 3 November 1818.1,2,3 He was the son of Stephen Hartwell Dutton and Lemira Hodgman. Edward was probably age under 10 in Stephen Hartwell Dutton's household in the 1820 Census taken in Manchester, Bennington County, Vermont.4 Edward was probably age 10 and under 15 in Stephen Hartwell Dutton's household in the 1830 Census taken in Rockingham, Windham County, Vermont.5 Edward was probably age 20 and under 30 in Stephen Hartwell Dutton's household in the 1840 Census taken in Rockingham.6 He married Jerusha A. Hopkins in Vermont, on 6 October 1844.7,8,9 He was a head of household in the 1850 census taken in Rockingham, a farmer age 31; his real estate was valued at $500, the equivalent of $10,900 in the year 2000; he lived adjacent to his father; Jerusha A. Hopkins resided in the same household, as "Jerusha Dutton" age 22; as did Henry Jackson Dutton, age 4; Laura Sparinek??, a student age 14; James P. Durant, a laborer age 24 (born in South Carolina); and Albert Stebbins, a laborer age 24 (born in New York).9 Edward died on 19 March 1890 in Westmoreland, Cheshire County, New Hampshire, at age 71.10 He was a farmer, and lived in Grafton, Westminster, and Manchester; and in Westmoreland, N.H.11 |
