Katie was born in Morgan, Orleans County, Vermont, on 24 September 1874.1,2,3,4 She was the daughter of Allen Downing Felch and Eliza Belle Gardner. She was a resident in the household of Allen Downing Felch in the 7 June 1880 census taken in Newbury, Orange County, Vermont, age 5 at school, his daughter.5 Family tradition has it that the father of her child, Lloyd, was not allowed by his parents to marry her; he soon after disappeared. She married Ellsworth L. Humphrey in Newbury, on 23 October 1897.6 Katie Jane Felch appears in a photograph taken circa 1906 in Newbury. She became Annabel Lindal Nelson's adoptive mother after her mother died.7 Katie died on 8 October 1928 at age 54.8
