Charles Barrett

(August 1798 - 26 March 1865)
|
Charles was born in New Hampshire, in August 1798.1,2
He married Mary (--?--) prior to 1835.3
He married Sybil Dartt in Weathersfield, Windsor County, Vermont, following April 1838.4,3,5
He was a head of household in the 1850 census taken in Weathersfield, a farmer age 51; his real estate was valued at a substantial $6,000, the equivalent of $130,400 in the year 2000; Sybil Dartt resided in the same household, as "Sybil Barrett" age 47; as did Charles P. Barrett, as "Charles P." a student age 14; Moses P. Wheeler, a farmer and student age 16; Laura (--?--), as "Laura Wheeler" a student age 16; Parthenia Olcott, as "Parthen Dart" age 68; and Marcus Stocking, a farmer age 22.4
He was a head of household in the 3 September 1860 census taken in Weathersfield, a farmer age 62; his real estate was valued at $8,000 and his personal property at $3,150, the equivalent of $228,000 (total) in the year 2000; Sybil Dartt resided in the same household, as "Sybil Barrett" a housewife age 60 [sic].5
Charles died on 26 March 1865 at age 66.6
He was buried in the northeast part of the Plain Cemetery in Weathersfield. His gravestone reads: "My strength and my heart faileth but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.".3
There is a William Barrett who appears on the 1800 census of Weathersfield, according to Dr. Butterfield, but his relationship to Charles (if any) is not known to me. Charles Barrett and his son-in-law Luther P. Warren lived in the District No. 2 (Upham District) in a house previously owned by Cyrus Boynton. Also in that district, George Barrett lived in a house previously occupied by Benjamin Parker. "C. Barrett" is identified with two houses in District No. 12 (Lime Kiln); one is on Old Route 131, the other on Gulf Road. |
