Jonathan was born in New York, on 12 March 1812.1,2,3,4,5 He married ? (--?--) circa 1842.6 He married Lucinda Gibson in Mount Holly, Rutland County, Vermont, on 19 March 1846.7,8,9 He was a head of household in the 1850 census taken in Shrewsbury, Rutland County, Vermont, a farmer age 38; his real estate was valued at $400, the equivalent of $8,700 in the year 2000; Lucinda Gibson resided in the same household, as "Lucinda Johnson" age 27; as did Hannah Johnson, a student age 6; Alva Gideon Johnson, age 3, age 1; and Sarah Ellen Johnson.7 Jonathan Johnson and Lucinda Gibson reportedly had 10 children.10 Jonathan died on 12 June 1863 in Shrewsbury, at age 51.11,12 He was buried in the Colburn-Tabor Cemetery in Shrewsbury.10,13
