Nancy was born in Newbury, Orange County, Vermont, on 18 May 1845.1 She was the daughter of William N. Gardner and Eliza Nelson. Nancy died 1850 (before 22 February) in Newbury. I place her death before her namesake's birth, for that reason alone; I believe the 1850 census is in error as to month.2 She was a resident in the household of William N. Gardner, age 5 "died since June", in the 6 August 1850 census taken in Newbury.3
