George N. Gardner

     George was born in Newbury, Orange County, Vermont, on 22 May 1840.1,2,3 He was the son of William N. Gardner and Eliza Nelson. George was probably age under 5 in William N. Gardner's household in the 1840 Census taken in Newbury. He was a resident in the household of William N. Gardner in the 6 August 1850 census taken in Newbury, a student age 10.4 He was a resident in the household of William N. Gardner in the 4 August 1860 census taken in Newbury, a farm laborer age 20.5 He served as a Private in Company C, 3rd Vermont Volunteer Infantry. George died of wounds received on 12 May 1864 at the battle of Spotsylvania in Spotsylvania, Spotsylvania County, Virginia, at age 23.
