Anna Jackson Hartness
(1889 - December 1966)
| Anna was born in 1889.1 She married Doctor William Henry Beardsley in Springfield, Windsor County, Vermont, on 30 October 1912.1,2 One event gives a glimpse of the family's means and situation. Her daughter Mary, "became critically ill in Italy on her wedding trip." Anna, and her son Hartness, "received a cable to that effect about 4:30 p.m. July 17th, and after a hectic time involving two airplane journeys and a train ride just managed to catch the liner 'Bremen' from New York for Europe sailing at midnight that same night. Mrs. Fenn recovered." "An unwelcome New Year's Day [1941] event in Springfield was a stubborn fire in the two apartment house at 31 Orchard Street, owned by Mrs. W.H. Beardsley ..."3 In 1946 she was serving as a Trustee of the Library in Springfield; this was still true in 1961.4 "The Committee for the Restoration of the Old Eureka School House held an open meeting" 11 October 1946. "Mrs. Anna Beardsley was elected Chairman."5 "Edward Miller in December, 1955, offered his Elm Street mansion as a permanent art, craft and cultural center.... The [Miller] Foundation held an organizational meeting January 5, 1956, and elected the following officers: Mrs. W.H. Beardsley, President ..."6 she was Chairman of the Association for the Preservation of the Eureka School House. Herbert William Dutton was among those who in October 1958 dismantled and stored the schoolhouse, in space provided by Senator Flanders.7,8 Anna died in December 1966.9 |
