Emmett was born in Mount Holly, Rutland County, Vermont, on 17 December 1854.1,2 He was the son of Charles Otis Williams and Mary Ann Moore. He married Harriet Alida Johnson on 14 October 1879.3,4,5,6,7 He was a head of household in the 11 June 1880 census taken in Mt. Holly a teamster age 25; Harriet Alida Johnson resided in the same household, as "Hattie Williams" keeping house age 25, his wife; as did Guy Emmett Williams, age 1/12, his son.6 He was a head of household in the 2 July 1900 census taken in Chester, Windsor County, Vermont, as "Emet" a farmer age 45; Harriet Alida Johnson resided in the same household, as "Hattie A. Williams", mother of 3 children all living, age 45, his wife; as did Guy Emmett Williams, a book shop helper age 20, his son; Clyde Jonathan Williams, a student age 12, his son; and Alice Ellen Williams, a student age 18, his daughter.8 He was a head of household in the 17 February 1920 census taken in Springfield, Windsor County, Vermont, a machine shop day laborer living in a home he owned free, age 65; Harriet Alida Johnson resided in the same household, as "Hattie A. Williams", age 65, his wife; as did Ada Hattie Williams, a student age 14, his granddaughter; and Ruth Alice Williams, a student age 11, his granddaughter.4 He married Nettie Vile on 17 May 1928. Emmett Emile Williams was living with Derrick Dutton's family on Brockway's Mills Road the year Kathelyn Dutton started first grade, 1934.9 At some point, he lived with "Aunt Sadie and Uncle Clyde" Williams.9 After Emmett "couldn't live with anyone any more, he moved to Mrs. Goudy's Nursing Home in Saxton's River."10 Emmett died on 18 September 1942 in Saxtons River, Rockingham, Windham County, Vermont, at age 87.
