Mary was born in Newbury, Orange County, Vermont, on 11 November 1883. She was the daughter of Allen Downing Felch and Eliza Belle Gardner. Mary died of drinking poison, probably mercury found in her father's toolbox on 7 June 1886 in Newbury, at age 2.1 She was buried beside her mother in Boltonville, Newbury, Orange County, Vermont.2
