Horatio Walker Dutton

| Horatio was born in Rockingham, Windham County, Vermont, on 17 October 1829.1,2 He was the son of Stephen Hartwell Dutton and Lemira Hodgman. Horatio was probably age under 5 in Stephen Hartwell Dutton's household in the 1830 Census taken in Rockingham.3 Horatio was probably age 10 and under 15 in Stephen Hartwell Dutton's household in the 1840 Census taken in Rockingham.4 He married Laura Ann Severance on 9 August 1856.5,6 His wife Laura was the sister of Warren F. Severance, who married Horatio's sister Ancy C. Dutton. Horatio was in the Union Army, enlisting as a private 15 July 1862 with Co. G 11th Vermont Volunteers. During his service he was loaned to the 2nd Corps. He was transferred to the Veterans Reserve Corps 28 December 1863 and was discharged 12 August 1865, for a total service of 3 years and 28 days.7,8,9 He was a farmer and a miller in the early 1880s in Saxton's River, Rockingham, Vermont.10 He appeared on the Veteran's Schedule of the 1890 Census taken in Saxtons River, Rockingham, Windham County, Vermont.8 Horatio died on 2 December 1904 in Saxtons River, at age 75.11 |
